My slusho t-shirt arrived via USPS today. In the box I got my black shirt, invoice copy, and a half a page of a newspaper article in Japanese.
The 7-25-2007 dated article is of page 5/6, does not have any distinguishable English, aside from a Yankees logo (boo), “Godzilla [Japanese lettering] In USA” (I shit you not; Which is also on page 6), and a bunch of capital H’s and then “IDEKI,” though I’m not entirely sure if it’s just Hideki or Ideki.
There was also a 2nd article, again, only the top portion of it. It was of pages 7/8, but again more baseball related than anything since that’s what the pictures were of.
Either way, I’ll have the paper scrap scanned in later tonight for anyone that’s interested and wants to see some “real” evidence. I’m not inclined to believe that there’s something hidden in here, since both sides are sports related, but who knows.
EDIT: Here are some crappy (crappy, crappy) camera phone pictures of the article for 5/6 (too lazy to do more for 7/8) for the time being.

My money’s on that being an article regarding Hideki Matsui. You said it had a Yankees logo, said something about Godzilla in the USA and had Ideki and Hideki all over it. Hideki Matsui for the Yankees is often referred to as Godzilla. My guess…
Godzilla is Hideki Matsui’s nickname ….so i would say you have Japanese coverage of a Yankees game. And one of the pics is Hisashi Iwakuma the pitcher for the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles. Looks like legit Japanese sports pages to me.
Most likely a tribute to “Godzilla”, I would assume.
Newspapers cannot just “find” themselves into your mail package, so there must be a purpose for it.
I’m working on getting a translator, maybe we can locate a Japanese newspaper site and see if this is pulled right from the pages, or made especially for Slusho customers.
Klace, did you bother to read the two comments above? They explained that with the baseball pictures, and various mentions of Godzilla/Hideki, the article is in regards to a baseball player.
And I didn’t say that this was just “found” in my shipment; I just said that it was included in it. I’d only guess that the reason for doing it, is just to give it more realism that Slusho is a “real company” from Japan.
I also wouldn’t doubt that they purposefully selected that article, considering it said “Godzilla in the USA!” Ironic yes, but I’m sure it was an obvious ploy to ruse viewers as well as just getting them to laugh at it.
By Godzilla I meant the baseball player, as the two comments above stated. And your theory does sound plausible, in fact, highly probable. Maybe we should check in on other people who order Slusho products and see if they get another page of this “newspaper”
And not to start a conflict or anything but you must have misread my comment Jordan, I said these things just cannot “find” their way into your package, meaning someone had to put them there, for a reason.
Be it a ploy, or something more.
Still something interesting. I love the ways they make us more immersed into Cloverfield..
There are some people that have also received the same article, and was posted up in a thread at Unfiction: IMDB forum re:slusho shirts… .
Someone else on livejournal said “It had two different pages, one was a half torn article, the other a full page. I think mine had some race car/go cart drivers annnnddd some offical looking government people. that was about it.”
http://www.chicagohxc.com/2007/08/more-slusho-clues-or-just-useless-banter/
I’m guessing you’re being plagiarized?
There’s a type of obnoxious blog that culls posts and reposts them at their own site; it’s usually a get paid per post type site. I’ve had friends on Livejournal get culled by it.
Frankly, I’d like ‘em to die in fire.
MDS, might want to eat your own words there. That’s a separate blog of mine that is solely dedicated towards exactly that-blogging for profit.
I don’t use any of my own personal websites to do this, therefore I resort to project websites that died off, and needed something to be done with.
So, yes, while I did repost THAT entry, it was because I’m too fucking lazy to post real life stuff, because really, there’s only so much whining and bitching about my relationship I can do.
@AbramsProject, thanks for the heads up, but it’s my site, so I don’t care if I plagiarize myself… That and if you did ANY peeking around at all, you’d see that “Jordan” is splashed all over there ;)
Extrasonic on the unfiction forums got his/her shirt today and said it had a page in it that said “Samurai Voice” and “Yumiko Hashimoto” and the person also said that those were the only two non Japanese characters on the whole page.
In the past when I’ve purchased Transformers toys or other items that come from Japan (if your Slusho! shirt even came from Japan), they often use newspaper as packing materials because it’s way cheaper than packing peanuts, bubble wrap or other shipping materials.
It may be a clue, but it’s probably just some way for them to save money. I could be wrong, it’s happened several times before.
I can only imagine that if my guess is true, JJ and crew are having a great laugh at our expense.
Jerry, the newspaper isn’t something that’s really being used as a packing method. I mean, it’s literally two halves of one newspaper article. Mine wasn’t used to pack, it was included with the package.
My tshirt/invoice were inside of a plastic bag.
Oh, and the package came from a DC in South Carolina. ;)
I think it’s a new Godzilla movie. Look at the ad again for the Slush shirt, the word “New”, then “Godzilla in USA”. Also, in the trailer the last roar sounds very much like Godzilla. I recall as a kid Godzilla beginning his roar with a high end and then a low end pitch. Finally this is a newspaper clipping for Heideki Matsui signing with the Yankees who is also known as “Godzilla” to NY fans.
JP, you make me want to blow my brains out. Seriously. THIS IS NOT A GODZILLA MOVIE!.
i think its saying that its going to be the “New Godzilla” like JJ said at comic con, not Godzilla, no, but a monster like and comparable to Godzilla
Gosh, Godzilla this, Godzilla that… I wonder when we’ll stop reading about that nonsense…
And, about the text in the newspaper, I know many friends who can read japanese (anime fans, like me… well, not like me =D), and they could for sure, translate all the text in those newspapers, just to see if they have clues. Of course, they’ll need better scans =P
OK, So I take Japanese at school, but I still haven’t quite learned how to read Kanji…
In other words, I can probably translate 2/3 of this article but Kanji are usually used for important things like nouns, days of the week etc. so if someone can find a list of Kanji meanings along with pictures, once the hi-res versions of these articles get posted I can do some translating.
no more godzilla im tired of hearing about godzilla, the movies were not that good, the only one that had at least alittle promise was the one that was based in new york. And whats with all of these movies about monsters that destroy cities and stuff? the concept is gettin old for real and i think when everything comes out and surfaces the title will be called “Overnight” and it will just be another average monster movie with more computer graphic effects, lame storyline, and stuff that really doesnt make sense. I am not trying to knock the movie, really im not, im just saying that ive seen this way to many times before with the whole “mysterous movie stuff”
This slusho thing has me thinking. On the 1-18-08 website there are some picture. 2 of teh pictures have writing on the back. On the one about “Who takes care of ya” on the front we see a character drinking something. Is he drinking slusho?
What do you think?
Scott
I got a Slusho! shirt in the mail yesterday, too, and it came with a couple pages of newspaper. The box was all wet from rain, though, and I was in a hurry, so for some stupid reason I just grabbed the shirt and ignored the paper. I figured it was in Japanese or something when I saw it in the box, cause they’re clever like that, but I didn’t take the time to look at it. Wish I had.
Well, at least no one is comparing it to the Ethan Haas crap anymore.
Or it’s a general term meaning “outer-space fucker”.
1 question..what is the return address on the package?
OK, OK… it’s not a new Godzilla movie…sheesh. Jordan you’re right. I just found out about the ownership rights. Toho still owns Godzilla. Whatever it is I hope it’s a good flick because if its a dog we’ve all been had! How about an end of the world bible thing? The Beast from the Sea in Book of Revelations? I don’t know just throwin out my dice here.
JJ has given us enough to know that it will be a monster for our generation, our culture.
All these websites showing “spy footage” and whatever is too much for me anymore. If we figure it all out now, we will be disappointed.
JJ has a very good mind, the guy can make movies (Mission Impossible 3) and hes got mad poeple on edges in lost. But this movie is only PRODUCED by him and his crew bad robot and Matt Reeves I think this is his first time directing a theatrical movie and a monster movie at that. I really really hope that JJ cares about the fans and is not just hyping us all up to run out on 1 18 08 and pay 10 bucks for a movie ticket just to sit there and watch a crappy movie. OH and on the call sheet that New york Mag posted, it says that “the movie possibly ends with Rob and Beth underneath a bridge in central park ignoring the chaos, and focusing on each other”. The only thing i have to say to that is if that is the ending, the movies gonna suck.
Ive also heard something about the monster being from some kind of sea thats actually on the US map
ive been doing some research and i found this guy on youtube named nooneimportant77. hes got set footage from when the “CHEESE” crew was filming in central park at night. it looks like the ending scene under the bridge that was described in the call sheet. Go check his youtube page out hes got alot of videos
My theory:
The Slusho website has the slogan ‘you can’t drink just six’.
If you go to the website www.youcantdrinkjustsix.com it strangly brings you to a website about acoustic monitoring of the ocean from NOAA, the nattional Oceanic & Atmospheric administration.
The acoustic monitoring program is a US Navy program to listen to underwater sounds in the oceon (probably to capture Sovjet Union submarines during cold war).
This underwater sound recording system captures sound of many things: seismic activity, whales (and there are whales on the Slusho website!), but also unidentified sounds.
In 1997 a sound was detected which scientist attribute to a giant beast leaving in the ocean.
You can find the unidentified sound via ‘acoustic home - multimedia sounds’ of that NOAA website. Interesting enough one of the unidentified sounds is labeled ‘mystery’. I learned from another 1-18-08 blog that this word is shown somewhere as a label on a door in the Cloverfield trailer.
Clicking in the sound ‘mystery’ plays the actual underwater recording. The sound you hear sounds very much like the first sound from the ‘monster’ you hear in the trailer (where they think it was an earthquake). So it is the giant undersea beast which was recorded underwater in 1997 which is now coming on shore in NY on 1-18-08 …
It is a Godzilla like movie after all …
Question is still where this giant monster is coming from … Has that to do something with the drink Slusho? I saw strange theories where the drink contains micro-organism which come in the oceon and grows monsters … (seems a bit far for me).
Go to the website www.youcantdrinkjustsix.com and explore the website you see. Very interesting to build theories …
That sounds like water and air mixing to make a bubble. Not much of a mystery there to my ears.
At this point I need to wait for the movie to come out. I’m burnt on all this speculation.
i also got newsprint along with my shirt i have uploaded images here
http://www.flickr.com/photos/19096021@N00/
it will be funny if slusho has absolutely nothing to do with the movie. you know what, i think JJ and his people are planning to release this drink to the US and sell it out of corner stores and stuff like slurpees from 7 eleven, and all this stuff about the website and the tee shirts are just a way for the drink to get noticed. its probably just a whole other viral marketing thing. Well if it is he sure knows how to do it. Also ive noticed that ever since JJ released the untitled movie trailer other movies have become more anonymous and dont reveal much like for instance the new batman movie with the dollar bill joker faces and the website whysoserious.com that takes you to his criminal record, or like iron man that has the website with the name of the movie and the release date but nothing else and the batman trailer that just has the bat symbol and voices in the background LOL its good to see how many people catch on to an idea. I have a feeling that this is not the last time we will be solving a mysterious movie trailer for a very long time
JP, you listened to “bloop”, you need to listen to “slowdown”.
http://www.pmel.noaa.gov/vents/acoustics/sounds_mystery.html
It does kind of sound like it.
To be fair though, it also sounds like your car tires when you are slowing down on rumble strips. really long rumble strips. really, really long rumble strips.
Under water.
Jerry, JP listen to “mystery” like Ivo said… sent chills down my spine.
AND! Read the news article from CNN (click on “unidentified sounds”)! I’ll bet anything that this is the back story for the monster in the movie! Pretty cool linking reality and the movie together!
Also, I ran a “whois” search on the website youcanteatjustsix.com and it seems to be registered to a marketing firm in Philly, called paper-street; don’t see how its related. Any ideas, anyone?
“mystery” is “slowdown”
Chills? Really? Did you have underwater highway construction nightmares when you were a child?
The first time I listened to ‘slowdown’ it sounded like an engine ‘slowing’ down, like a submarine. Get it? But listening to it again I have to admit it sounds just ike a really big freakin’ alien-monster-thing with fifteen eyes and eight arms, six legs, two tails and really bad breath, waking up and yawning. NOOOOOOOO!!!!
Mystery/Slowdown, to me, is reminiscent of the monster sound from the trailer; maybe grasping for straws…
But, check out the CNN story: http://edition.cnn.com/2002/TECH/science/06/13/bloop/index.html
whadya think?
how is the quality of the shirt?
is the logo nice and firm? like it wont be crappy after a couple of washes?
worth 20$?
If you listen very carefully to the ’slowdown’ unidentified sound on the NOAA website, I still believe it sounds very close to the first ‘monster’ sound in the movie. If you play them close to each other, I find the similarity remarkable.
It provides an interesting perspective for a story. It connects reality (an actual unidentified sound recording which scientist attribute to a large living creature - see CNN story JohnnyCat is refering to) with fantasy about a monster.
Would be interesting to learn more who is behind the website youcantdrinkjustsix. Why is this linked to the underwater sound website?
OK i Typed in the website and yeah i gotta admit it is pretty strange that it takes you to a underwater sound recording website but anyway that bloop sound is just a bloop thats all it is, there is no roar
But ive got to admit when you listen to slowdown it does sound like the exact roar from the movie. so maybe abrams found these sounds and picked one that sounded the scariest to him and read the origin and backstory behind it and chose it for his monster movie and just aplified and edited the sound to make it sound like a giant out of this world sea creature. I still say that if it is a sea creature he got the whole concept of mystery from the lock ness monster stuff
you know what, this movie could actually be about a undiscovered swimming lizard/dinosaur that has lived for years in the ocean of new york city and is awakened by scientists doing experiments and tests and then starts terrorizing new york city. Now if you listen closely to the trailer roar, I thought it kinda sounded like a alligator slash crocodile/ Trex sort of thing and as you know alligators and crocodiles swim in water so if it is a monster mix for example a dinosaur mixed with a actual animal then it would probably be a Trex mixed with a alligator type of dinosaur and that would explain the Giant claw mark in the back of the statue of liberty. that would also explain how it could throw the statue of libertys head because Trex can stand up on hind legs and it has those two arms for grabbing. SO like i said if its two things mixed its probably a alligator or crocodile mixed with a trex or some kind of undiscovered spieces of dinosaur. I dont think it is an alien of any sort i think that guy in the paper got his facts wrong because why would an alien roar???
OK, so i got bored today with it being sunday and i had nothing to do. so i thought i would look for giant sea monsters, i found a few but nothing that would match up with cloverfields monster or roar. Then I started to look for giant monster movies and it brought me to a website called giantmonstermovies.com. This website gives you famous and infamous monster movies that have been made in various countries like japan and denmark and the UK. so i started looking for movies that could have any relation to cloverfield or give JJ abrams an idea for cloverfield and i came across a movie called GORGO made in 1961 by Eugene Lourie and in the movies picture it has at the top in red letters “Like nothing you’ve ever seen before!” and then it shows a giant monster with red eyes being attacked by the army or something. If you look at the poster and the left hand of the monster it looks like its holding something looks like a head from something. Anyway I dont know if anything is based off of this movie i just thought it shared a resemblence to cloverfield. The website is www.giantmonstermovies.com and when you go there just click on United Kingdom
wait i made a mistake, when you go to www.giantmonstermovies.com, go to Database either framed or no framed and then click on United Kingdom
I’m glad it’s your site and you reposted your own column; I have no problems with things like associatedcontent.com/general profit blogging in general. However, it’s the blog-sites that DO cull without attribution or permissions that I have a problem with, and since I didn’t bother checking that site in depth to see which it was, I made the pessimistic choice. I stand corrected, but I decline to word-munch.
JJ Abrams said recently that the movie is influenced by Godzilla but it is not a new Godzilla movie.
In a nutshell, this is a retelling of the age-old story of the legendary Kraken or Leviathan, the serpent of the deep that surfaces a millennium to wreak havoc on us landlubbers, arrrgggh.
Now go swab the deck ye salty dog! Off to ya to Davie Jones locker, ye! Feed ya to the Kraken, now.
Where’s my parrot?
The dread pirate Steve be in no man’s debt. I’ll make a barter with you. True as the north star.
In exchange for your kindness, I’ll be splittin’ me buried treasure with you once I find it, that be.
Matie, all ye be splittin’ is me head once you find ye treasure!
something about cast auditions are on a website called www.showfax.com. 1 18 08news i know the whole thing with them posting fake stuff but this kinda sounds legit, just check it out
Could Slusho simply be a wonderfully designed “crossover?” JJ A is famous for crossovers in his tv shows (Alias crossover to LOST and vice versa, etc.)…… Could he simply have decided to make an Alias crossover that fans don’t pick up on unless they “know” both worlds?
Just a thought while at work on this HORRIBLY slow Monday afternoon.
Maybe the new flick is Jennifer Garner staring in a remake of the Attack of the 50 Foot Woman.
Oh man. With that comment JP, I am more excited about this thing now, than ever!
I’ll be in my bunk.
you know now that i think about it, paramount could have done a secret deal with the ower to godzilla and just maybe covering it up to rule out the possibility of it being another godzilla moive. I mean if you think about it the whole japanese party at Rob’s place, the fireball, the roar, the strength. you know how they redid batman in a darker and scarier way, well im thinking this might be the same kind of technique, and that NYC godzilla movie dorito commercials have been popping up on TV lately, and the movie was released in 98 so idk at this point i dont know what or who to believe
Has the whole world gone crazy? Am I the only one around here who gives a shit about the rules? Mark it zero!
FOR THE LAST TIME!
IT.
IS.
NOT.
A.
FUCKING.
GODZILLA.
MOVIE.
GET IT THROUGH YOUR THICK FUCKING SKULLS RETARDS!
anybody else look at the sound files, and see that they were sped up 10 to 16 times? the files had to be altered to even make it sound like something….to me that shouts shenanigans
LOL ok its not a godzilla movie
maybe its dogzilla. It’s a giant dog, not a lizard that will destroy New York City. Rob is made out of Slusho. The X-men save the day though. That is why this movie is going to be titled X-Men 4.
Jerry, stop going to Starbucks.
wow dogzilla is a movie i would NEVER want to see lol
Heh.
Says the guy that started talking like a pirate.
What’s funny is I hate coffee, especially Starbucks. I don’t drink soda either.
Just naturally crazy.
no websites have any news at all, this is getting boring
Not to change the subject or anything, but did anything happen with the myspace pages? I would get around to adding them as friends, but I am just naturally lazy.
Not that I know of, i think they all still look the same, and of course the movie is top secret so they wouldnt reveal any info but to my understanding the myspace pages are still the same
To this point, only Jamie has added me. I have a request into Hud, but he hasn’t added me and I have sent two messages that the person operating the page has read.
The first time I tried to add them, I had a 1-18-08 reference in my screen name and all of them denied me. The fuckers, they shouldn’t do that to people that are following the film, but I kinda understand that they want the to be “real” looking.
The second time, I didn’t take the reference off until they started denying again, and caught it in time before Jamie could deny it.
My advice is, if you want to add them, don’t put a Cloverfield reference in you screen name.
It did seriously piss me off about denying the request of fans of the film though.
Has anyone stated that Noriko Yoshida could be the mule on the Slusho site thinking of the mitt? It leaves to never be seen again like she did in the story.
One more thing, I found this on Wiki: The term “mule” (Latin mulus) was formerly applied to the offspring of any two creatures of different species - in modern usage, a “hybrid”.
Jack
just got my slusho shirt, and yup, 2 pages of japanese news paper. 1 page of what looks like regular news, and another from the sports section. it was loosely wrapped around the plastic bag the shirt came in, kinda like its supposed to be taken as packing material. i’m taking this as lending itself to the japanese theme, but no more.
oh, and it seems to be of decent MFG, lasting well more than 10 washes.
Ok, no Godzilla, he wants a new monster entirely, it’s not cthulhu, it’s not a lion, i do find that mental image of a giant lion coming out of the water after throwing the statue of liberty’s head across town entertaining (Lion King III, Mufasa’s Revenge!!). He saw Godzilla everywhere in Japan and wants America to have it’s own monster (like Godzilla is to Japan), Godzilla attacking New York again doesn’t sound entertaining… focus on the trailer, slusho, the clues everywhere in the trailer (AKM, Exit Mystery St., Dead Dead, 2004 ACE, ABZ3293, 63 degrees at 12:32am, etc) i watch every frame of the trailer almost daily looking for more. also look into the news papers coming with the Slusho T shirts, it’s japanise newspaper, unfortunatly I can’t read Japanise. Also the pictures, six minutes after you are on www.01-18-08.com the roar of the monster happens and the notes on the back of the pictures (Don’t forget who takes care of you. love J, you’ll notice the “KES CARE” is faded on the photo)(also “Robbie: here, use this photo to send my hotness far and wide!!! Im gonna miss the hell out of ya!! Love, Jamie” Also on the “and w” it’s smeared and a little faded) the picture of the girls crying… i think it’s the same girl and it’s both sides of her face, not to mention the demon image in her hair… all these are clues. Find it!!
